Staycation: Harry Potter Home Viewing Party

Most of us are home, trying to think of ideas not only to keep ourselves occupied and those we’re living with. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, or if you’ve never seen it before here is how you can have a fun viewing party and introduce others to this entertaining 8 movie series!

Now I know 8 movies is a daunting undertaking. You can divide the viewings into a couple of days or you can try to cram it into a marathon and make a whole day of it. This can be done with any movie or tv series, such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Twilight, or Game of Thrones. It works best with a fantasy movie world where you can make themed drinks and foods.

Step One: Prep work

Harry Potter undeniably is it’s own world and has a tremendous amount of source material to draw from. You can find a plethora of recipes and DIY crafts to do on the internet and Pinterest. You may have to do a little bit of research. Here’s what you’ll need for your viewing party.

  • Themed Food and Drinks
  • Decorations (optional)
  • Set up a room in your house for the viewing with comfortable sitting areas and provide extra pillows and blankets

Step Two: Recipes

Here are some recipes to help get you started. You can make these ahead of time or on the day.

Step 3: Activities

Yes, the movies are engaging but you’ll want to break up the constant viewing by adding some fun activities. Here are some things you can do in between movies.

Find your house

If you haven’t go to Wizardingworld.com take the short quiz and find out which house you belong in. While there you can also find out what your Patronus is and find your wand. We did this with my parents one night. It produced a lot of laughs. I thought for sure my Dad would be a Ravenclaw and he ended up being a Hufflepuff!

Paper Trail Designs has a great I spy game you can print out that is Harry Potter Themed.

All the Party Ideas.com has a great collection of Harry Potter themed party games, great for all ages.

Lastly, you can make some of the treats and drinks together with your family or housemates.

Step 4: Get everyone together and enjoy the party

At the end of the day no matter what you watch or theme you pick it’s all about spending time together and creating your own fun in these challenging times. So have fun, enjoy some movies and enjoy each other. What are some of the treats, themes, and games you would have at your viewing party? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time.
