We all need it, in one form or another. Every weight loss challenge on tv or show for that matter depends on it. So what helps you to stay on track? Is it a goal or is it a person, a group?
I have always found that I achieve more of my goals when I have someone or a group that I’m accountable to. All of my friends will be the first to tell you that I am very independent, and that is true but what they might not tell you is that they help to keep me accountable. I know that if I don’t make the effort to keep up my friendships, they could very well go away, that helps keep me accountable. The same is true for exercise and diet.
In reality most people dislike letting others down, especially if it’s someone you like or care for. One year I had a goal of running a marathon. Luckily so did my friend Nellie. If I didn’t have to meet up with her to run several times a week, I’m quite sure I wouldn’t have met that goal. I didn’t like running enough. Having someone who I could be accountable to, I was able to stick with the training.
Not all of us are lucky enough to have someone to workout with and that’s why technology is so great. In this day and age you have, at any given time, a variety of people you could be accountable to. If you join a CrossFit gym, it will be the group of people you work out with. If you’re at home, join Beyond the White Board, MyFitnessPal, or MapMyRun. These are just a few apps which have groups you can join and these groups will help you stick to your training programs. I have used all and find them very user-friendly.
Beyond the White Board is for people who love to CrossFit but may travel too much or not belong to a gym. You can post your scores, keep track of your PRs and compete against the elite across the world.
MyFitnessPal is mainly a nutrition app which allows the user to keep track of their food intake. You can do this by picking a caloric intake goal for the day or pay $50 for the year and get the beefed up version where you can set your macro goals.
MapMyRun or MapMyFitness allows you to log your fitness for the day, whether it be a run, cardio class or yoga. They provide monthly and weekly challenges for you to participate in and since the site is run by Under Armour many of the challenges award prizes. More incentive for you to keep to your fitness goals.
Whatever your goals. You can find an app to help you meet them. In the meantime if you are one of those people who are working from home, don’t belong to a gym or find yourself on the road here is a workout for you, enjoy! Until next time.
