Weekend Travel

Let talk about last minute deals. There are several websites that I utilize when I want to take a weekend jaunt. I\’m lucky I have the flexibility to be able to take off on a moment\’s notice. So when the travel bug hits there are some steps I take to find a destination.

First thing I do is see where it\’s cheapest to fly. My favorite websites for this are Google Flights and Skyscanner. Both services offer an interactive map which lists the cheapest flights from your local airport. It can help you decide where you want to go. One of the things I love about Google Flights is that when you click on the date box it lists out the whole month with the lowest prices listed so you can see which day is going to cost the least to fly. For instance I see that I can fly to San Francisco this weekend for just around $50.

My next step would be to look for accommodations. I like to use Airbnb because I like the feeling of having a home away from home. Also if you decide to rent a room you can make a friend with the person opening their home to you. The other website I go to is Trivago. This site compiles all the other search engines to get you a great deal on accommodations.

If you don\’t want to save money on booking your hotel and flight separately or maybe you like the convenience of one stop shopping. Some of the best deals on vacation packages I\’ve seen are from Travel Pirates and Travelzoo. Travel Pirates is fantastic. They tend to find the best deals and send alerts when there are drops in travel destinations you\’re looking for.

Once you get to the destination the I like to look at the local Groupon for deals on attractions. You\’d be surprised what you can find.

Let me know what you guys use. Is there a travel service that you prefer? Until next time, life is short, travel now!
